Local Missions

Chartwell Baptist Church - Local Missions

At Chartwell, charity does begin at home. It just so happens that we have a large home -- Oakville and Mississauga. And while we tend to think that the greatest needs must always be in the far corners of the earth, Chartwell has found great need and the opportunity to do God’s work on familiar streets and with familiar faces.

We have also learned that recognizing need and discussing needs are not enough. Acting in the name and spirit of God is what is needed most.

Food, training, housing, employment, friendship, counseling, caring and repairing all fall under our mandate. Please take a few moments to learn about the important projects Chartwell has undertaken in and around Oakville and Mississauga. Then, take a few moments to reflect upon the impact you can have with us as we follow Jesus into the community and the lives of our neighbours.

Kerr Street Ministries

April 19, 2006

Kerr Street Ministries helps and gives hope to Oakville's most vulnerable citizens. Serving over 1,800 people, this ministry focuses on the needs of children and youth, on at-risk low income families, seniors, and the mentally and physically disabled.

In an area where a youth gang once operated, there is now a youth drop-in centre, mentorship programs, and a summer day camp. In an area where many families struggle to put food on the table there is now a food bank, counselling services, and job-search guidance.

The Dam
Youth drop-in Centre
June 21, 2006

The Dam is a community program for youth (13-19yrs). All teens are welcome, free of charge, to come to the drop-in and participate in the programs, regardless of race, creed or colour. The drop-in provides a positive, healthy, encouraging and neutral turf environment that is drug-free and alcohol-free. It’s a safe place where youth can hang out. It is the hope that the drop-in is a dam that stops the flow of teens from becoming homeless street kids in the downtown core of Toronto. It is the goal to be the friends of youth and a resource to help them stay at home, in school and in the community.
